Isa Part Four

When Christ demonstrated miraculous signs to prove that he was an apostle of God, his followers asked him to create a bat. He molded clay into the shape of a bat, blew upon it, and by God’s command it became alive and flew away. Among flying creatures, the bat is one of the most astonishing beings; it is the only mammal that flies. It has no feathers, nurses its young, has teeth unlike birds, and even displays remarkable behaviors.

Medical sciences were highly developed in his time, and doctors were skilled in treating many diseases, yet they had no cure for leprosy, blindness, and several incurable illnesses. People who could not even walk were brought to Jesus, and through his blessed presence and prayer, they were cured by God’s permission.

Ibn Abbas stated that Christ restored four people to life after death. One of them was Lazarus, a sincere follower. When he fell ill, his sister sent for Christ, though the journey required three days, and by the time Christ arrived, Lazarus had already been buried for three days. Christ asked to be taken to his grave, prayed to God, and God restored Lazarus to life, and he lived, married, and had children. On another occasion, during a funeral procession, a grieving mother pleaded for the life of her only son. Christ prayed, and God returned him to life. A young girl who had died was also restored to life. Once, people asked Christ to bring back to life Sam, the son of Prophet Noah, who had died thousands of years earlier. Christ asked where he was buried, they showed the grave, he prayed, and Sam rose, thinking it was the Day of Judgment and became terrified. Christ comforted him, and by God’s will, he returned to rest peacefully.

Jesus Christ is among those exalted servants of God who participate in God’s system of administration. He said that whoever drinks from the water he gives shall never thirst again, for it becomes within them a spring of eternal life. This indicates that water is a fundamental element in God’s kingdom and creation. The universe, its elements, and creative processes are deeply connected to water. Water gives life to every living being, and water and soil are repeatedly mentioned in Divine scriptures, especially the Holy Qur’an.

And in the earth are neighboring regions… all watered by the same water, yet We make some better than others in produce. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.

13:4

We send down water from the sky in perfect measure.

Allah drives the clouds, joins them together, and then you see rain pouring from within them.

24:43

Who created the heavens and the earth and sends down rain from the sky? Is there any god besides Allah?

Do they not see that We drive water to barren land and bring forth crops?

32:27

Do you not see that Allah sends down water from the sky?

35:27

Allah sends down water from the sky… then vegetation flourishes and later withers.

39:21

He released the two seas so they meet, yet between them is a barrier they do not cross.

55:19

He will send rain to you in abundance, increase you in wealth and children, and provide you gardens and flowing rivers.
71:11–12

And We placed in the earth firm, lofty mountains and gave you sweet, wholesome water to drink.
77:27

And We send down abundant water from the clouds so that We may produce grain, vegetation, and luxurious gardens.

He brings forth from the earth its water and pastures.
79:31

Let man look at his food: We pour down abundant water, split the earth open, and bring forth grain, grapes, vegetables, olives, dates, dense gardens, fruits, and fodder — provision for you and your cattle.
80:24–32

He created the heavens without visible pillars, set firm mountains upon the earth so it would not shake beneath you, and sent down rain from the sky, producing every noble form of life in pairs.
31:10

Christ said that he was blessed with the love and mercy of God to such an extent that he became like a spring of life for those around him. There are countless galaxies in the universe, and all these galaxies are the Light of God.

God is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light is like a niche within which there is a lamp. The lamp is enclosed in glass, and the glass shines like a radiant star. It is lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil is almost luminous even if fire has not touched it. Light upon Light. God guides whom He wills to His Light. God sets forth parables for humanity, and God has knowledge of all things.
