Question:
During meditative practice, I perceived my mind to be filled with effulgent radiance. Suddenly, a subtle jolt was felt in the cerebral region, after which a stream of light emerged and dissolved into the surrounding atmosphere. I then perceived an eye made of light situated upon my forehead. An inner impression identified it as the third eye.
Later, while reclining to sleep, I witnessed my vision moving beyond the physical barrier of the wall. I clearly saw a table placed in the drawing room, although the scene disappeared the next moment.
I seek your guidance regarding these experiences. Are such states purely imaginative, or do they possess true spiritual reality?
Answer:
Allah the Almighty states in the Qur’an:
“وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَاطِينِ”
(Surah Al Hijr, 15:17)
Meaning: We have certainly adorned the lowest heaven with luminous lamps and have made them a protection against every rebellious devil.
Spiritual science teaches that through dedicated inner practice, the seeker gains familiarity with the unseen realms created by Allah the Almighty. One begins to witness their forms of existence, their habitats, and their modes of functioning. This enables deeper contemplation of the Divine artistry and wisdom that runs through all levels of creation.
When a person enters subconscious and metaphysical states, many unveilings occur. Among them is the direct witnessing of celestial realms and spiritual habitations. As the seeker grows in inner awareness, and as his latent spiritual faculties unfold further, these perceptions become more refined, clear, and stable. This development allows a more precise and profound understanding of spiritual realities.
